Principal Primary Engineer – HV Substations Locations: London, Manchester, Warwick, Motherwell, Derby, York Salary: Between £80,000 -£95,000 Car allowance Job Type: Permanent We are seeking an experienced Principal Primary Engineer with a strong background in HV Substations to lead a team and deliver high-quality engineering designs. Reporting to the HV Substation Team Lead, you will oversee the production of drawings and technical documents, ensuring consistency and quality. You will also support National Grid projects and assist the Power Sector Director with bid processes. Key Responsibilities: Lead a small team, ensuring high-quality design output for HV substations up to 400kV. Produce single line diagrams, primary layouts, and technical specifications. Manage design deliverables, reports, and drawings. Guide and develop junior engineers and CAD technicians. Collaborate with external suppliers and stakeholders to meet project requirements. Requirements: BEng/BSc in Electrical Engineering (Power/HV focus); MEng/MSc preferred. Significant experience in HV substation design. Familiarity with industry standards and software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.). Strong leadership and communication skills.
